Labor Day 2014 Celebrates Working Class, Highlights Need for Education to Succeed in Jobs

Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 to recognize the contributions workers have made to the prosperity and well-being of the United States. Detroit, as a working class city, has always made a large contribution to that prosperity.
